The Curse of #Perfection!
Imagine that you are standing on a beach, looking out toward the ocean. The place where the sky and the ocean meet is called the horizon. Now see yourself taking one step toward the horizon.
Are you any closer to the horizon? No!
There will always be an impenetrable separation between humankind and reaching a level known as perfection, as long as our home is on this side of #“the rainbow.” This is how the #DIVINE has ordered it, so that #GRACE might be GRACE – and any attempts to circumvent that reality, or by doing an end-run, will be met with a clear and undeniable result. At the very least, despite our most supreme effort and commitment to being perfect, no matter the pursuit or undertaking, we will always fall short of attaining that which is flawless in some way. Though others may not notice – we will! At the other extreme, though we might think our seemingly “perfect” actions and attitude are in the best interests of all concerned, what results, is a relational train wreck!
There will be no sequel to “The Tower of Babel,” no reaching to the heavens so we might be just like #GOD.
If people are known by the fruit their life manifests, then the lives of those whose minimum standard of acceptability is perfection, ought to be revealing as to the wisdom of subscribing to such a lofty station. Oh, how illuminating it is – but not in a constructive sense. At least not, when what should be most important is in view.
Theirs is a legacy of interpersonal carnage. #Relationships destroyed, the “perfect one” blinded to the very notion that “the small stuff” shouldn’t ever be sweat-ed – and virtually everything is “small stuff.” How tragic that so many who purport a relationship with their #CREATOR based solely on GRACE by #FAITH, quickly abandon it for another gospel based solely on works by religion. (see #“The Walk”– Chapter 2 Faith and Relationships – http://thewalkbook.com/ ).
Theirs is a life of never knowing what it means to “make a #joyful noise.” Sadly, they haven’t yet learned that you should always measure backwards. Where you ended the day in contrast to where you began it is to be celebrated! It’s called #progress! For them, nothing will ever be good enough! If they saw Jesus walking on the water and they were a journalist, the headline in the next day’s newspaper would read “#Jesus Can’t Swim!”
Theirs is a litany of being transferred from one personal prison to another, never experiencing the freedom that true GRACE stands ready to lavish upon all who reach out to grasp HER. For a lifetime, they hold on to the false hope, that by walking quicker, reaching higher, demanding more, they will be able to reach the horizon and perfection – a state of being for a company of ONE! True GRACE, demands that we open our hands and let go of the end of the rope!
They haven’t learned yet, that while we have been created to strive to be the best that we can be, always making progress, reaching for the #unreachable star, perfection is always just beyond our grasp – and that’s how it is intended to be! That’s where the adventure of GRACE resides! It is about progress – not perfection!
Can you see yourself in this narrative? Do you know someone who this post describes to a tee? Would you like to be set free from this “self-imposed nightmare?
Please share this with someone that should read it. This just might be what they needed today!
