#Time – Spend it Wisely!
Time is on MY side – Written by Jerry Ragovoy and made famous by The Rolling Stones 1964
Time in a Bottle – Lyrics by Jim Croce 1970
Actually, that is exactly how most of us view time. We live our lives as if, on the one hand, we could arrest it, command it to stop evolving, on the other hand, like it was never-ending, an inexhaustible supply that just keeps replenishing itself, every time we spend it down. Time is NOT on our side and we are not able to freeze it in its tracks. It relentlessly advances for everyone and everything to its eventual midnight. There are no exceptions! We are all desperately in need of a wake-up call – while there is still time!
Time is a #non-renewable resource:
Even though we acknowledge that our lives are finite, that we’re mortal, we act as if we’re the #Energizer Bunny® – that we’re going to go on and on and on. This is an illusion. We’re living as in a drunken stupor after pulling an #“all night-er.” There is coming a day for us all, when the sand in the hourglass will drop its last spec into the bottom, and as far as our earthly sojourn goes – that will be it! No one, absolutely no one knows the precise moment that will occur –but it will! It could even arise as I’m writing this post, while you’re reading it!
Time is deeply personal:
We each have our own timepiece when it comes to the moment our personal alarm will go off – and there will be no “snooze” button we can hit, no reset. There will be no bargaining for just another day! This should make it acutely important, that we all march to our own drummer and not someone else’s. Just as I am the only one responsible for how I invest every second of the time I’ve been given, so too are you, the only one accountable for yours. It is so vitally important that we all seek to discover our individual #life purpose – to exercise the courage to question – everything (www.thewalkbook.com)!
Time is priceless:
Think of anything external and tangible that you value. Gold, diamonds, a personal jet, fame, fortune, a best-selling book (are you listening to yourself Alan?). None of them, not one – even begins to approach the intrinsic value of time. Time to tell someone special that you love them, to exclusively focus on a child indulging their passions, invest in a date night, recognize a special occasion, visit the sick, or simply giving someone a hug. The list is virtually endless, and all are priceless. Each one should come custom wrapped in its own impenetrable inviolate sanctuary, with a sign on the door that reads, “Do not disturb. Once in a lifetime event in progress!”

You are absolutely correct Alan, when you say that time is priceless and something that once it is gone – each hour, minute or second, we cannot get it back. There are no refunds on one of life’s most precious commodities! There are people who literally lose time because they are so busy focusing on the past that the present just slips by without them even noticing! I had a friend who spent years in therapy to figure out what went wrong in the past. He should have been using his time more wisely to figure out how he could make the present and his future something of value. He never did get the answers to his past and he completely robbed himself of the future he wanted but didn’t have time to pursue! Now there’s a conundrum for you. And now I have spent the last few moment of my own time doing what I love…writing and discussing issues of the world and its people. Thank you for e opportunity to voice my thoughts. Looking forward to more of that.
Thank you Shein for your always eloquent rendering. I love your reference to “there are no refunds to one of life’s most precious commodities.” Indeed, I believe it is THE MOST precious! Neither the past nor the future represent reality, only the present, the NOW. What a waste! I so much appreciate your investment of time in sharing your thoughts. Thank you again!
